Asoka Weerasinghe retires as political activist in Canada on August 4, 2013

Q: I understand that you have decided to retire from political activism in Canada on August 4th. Is there any particular reason or significance to choose this date for your retirement?

A: Yes indeed.  That would be the 30th anniversary of the day when I decided to stand tall for my Motherland, Sri Lanka.

 Harking back, one can conclude  that  29th July 1987 was one of the darkest days in the history of Sri Lanka as it was the day on which India invaded Sri Lanka and forced the then Sri Lankan government to sign the infamous ‘Indo – Lanka Accord’.


John Amaratunga new JSS President

United National Party (UNP) parliamentarian John Amaratunga was today appointed President of the Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya (JSS) by UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe. The late Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena was its former president.
