7,714 houses to be constructed for resettled families – Mullaittivu

“Resettled families in the Mullaittivu District are to be provided with 7,714 houses, constructed through a cooperation programme, assisted by various private, government and international institutions”, the Mullaittivu District Development Officer has said speaking with media.

Institutions such as UNDP, NHDA, Sarvodaya, Indian Pilot Project (Cluster Housing) and Habitat are also engaged in the program he had further said.

According to the District Development Officer, 4,951 houses have already been constructed while the construction of 2,148 houses is nearing completion. The construction of another 152 houses is to commence. Of the 7,714 houses 4,743 are new houses and the balance 2,971 houses are under repair, he said.

Meanwhile, the government has permanently resettled 109,532 persons comprising 34,307 families in their original native places, he was quoted as saying.
