TAMIL TIGER TERRORISTS BLAST 1000 YEAR OLD BUDDHIST
TEMPLE IN CITY CENTRE OF KANDY,SRI LANKA
At 0600 hrs Sri Lankan time on 25 January 1998 the Tamil Tiger terrorists blasted a high powered truck bomb in the city centre of Kandy, Sri Lanka’s ancient capital, killing scores of people and damaging the most revered 1000 year old world heritage site-the Temple of the Tooth.
According to news from Kandy the number killed and injured is about 20 but not confirmed due to tight security measures clamped down by the police and other security services.
The temple houses the tooth relic of Lord Buddha, jealously guarded from generation to generations by the Sinhalese kings and Buddhist laity. The tooth relic is considered by the Sinhalese as the ultimate symbol of sovereignity over the Island and is venerated by Buddhists world over. All important visiting dignitaries to Sri Lanka from the Buddhist world and other countries consider a visit to the Temple of the Tooth as a must.
From the commencement of the separatist terrorism by the Tamil Tigers one of their objective was to vandalise Buddhist temples and destroy ancient sites of Sinhalese civilization. Hundreds of Buddhist temples were razed to the ground in the Northern part of Sri Lanka by Tamil Tigers replacing them with Hindu temples. They have killed thousands of Buddhists and hundreds of Buddhist monks in their campaign of ethnic cleansing in Northern Sri Lanka and some parts of the Eastern Province.In addition to theses heinous crimes, the Tamil Tiger terrorists have been on a killing spree choosing cities and places important to Sinhalese Buddhists in their attempt to create a blacklash on the Tamils to attract world sympathy and to de-rail the Sri Lankan government’s military offensive to wipe out Tamil Tigers.
The attack on the sacred Temple of the Tooth clearly shows the barbaric nature of the Tamil Tigers.They have no respect for places of worship and world heritage sites such as Kandy which is a veritable storehouse of the ancient Sinhalese civilization.Tamil Tigers have been known as the Pol-Pots in Sri Lanka and they continue to show their lack of respect to human lives and gains of civilization.
The U.S.A, declared Tamil Tigers as a terrorist organization on 08 Oct 97 and the Canadian Federal courts proclaimed them as a terrorist outfit. At this juncture SRI LANKA NEEDS HELP AND ASSISTANCE TO WIPE OUT THESE BARBARIC TERRORISTS WHO ARE BEEN FINANCED AND HELPED IN OTHER WAYS BY TAMIL ORGANIZATIONS WHICH ACT AS FRONTS FOR THEM. THEY FUNCTION FROM COUNTRIES SUCH AS INDIA,THAILAND,BURMA,JAPAN,SINGAPORE,CAMBODIA AND NEPAL IN ASIA.
SOLIDARITY AMONG RESPONSIBLE GOVERNMENTS AND COMMUNITIES IS THE ONLY WAY TO DEFEAT THE TAMIL TIGERS.
