PROLOGUE

Lt. General Denzil Lakshman Kobbekaduwa was a titan amongst the many gallant soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the hope that all Sri Lankans may one day be able to live in peace and harmony as a single united nation.

Held in the highest esteem, a grateful nation mourned the loss of one of its most popular and decisive military leaders. Countless citizens paid their final respects to the late General at his funeral.

The Lt. General Denzil Kobbekaduwa TRUST was established on the 3rd of October, 1992 with the sole aim of perpetuating the late General's hopes and ideas. Lt. General Kobbekaduwa cared deeply for his troops. He admired them. He loved them.

Therefore, it is only fitting that his TRUST should benefit disabled servicemen and the families of those who have sacrificed their lives, as it's first priority. However, the TRUST's aims are many.

TRUST OBJECTIVES
  • (1) HELP disabled servicemen;
  • (2) HELP the families of those who have sacrificed their lives;
  • (3) HELP villagers and villages affected by the separatist war;

Noble as these objectives are, it is only via donation that these objectives may be realised. Donors to the Lt. General Denzil Kobbekaduwa TRUST have ranged from major corporations to school children. EPILOGUE

Even with the best of intentions and the greatest of will power, the TRUST cannot achieve all it needs to do - by itself.

We need your help to help those who have helped us !

So many brave men have sacrificed their lives in the name of national peace and security. It is our duty to help those who have displayed such courage. So many families have been devastated by a senseless war - women have lost husbands - children will never know their fathers - parents will never see their children.

Help us to help the disabled soldier, the families without a breadwinner due to the effects of war, people who have been displaced due to no fault of their own.

Any donations - large or small will help ease someone's pain.

Of course no donation, however large can ever erase what has happened. Those of us who are left can only try and ease that pain - never erase it and are distined to live our lives burdened with that thought.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them"
