Symphathising with terrorists?

It is human nature to sympathise with and support what is apparant, at least on the surface, as the underdog. Societies pride themselves upon giving the battlers a fair go. When a certain group of people, or a tradition or so on is faced with adversity, there is always an interested and devoted section of the community to sing their song. But who will sing the song of the sinhalese? For we the international community are made to believe, or for the few enlightened with the truth, made to endure the sinhalese as the the ugly oppressor deserving of their plight at the hands of the LTTE. Reality, however, completely contradicts what we absorb every day.

It is paramount we neutralise the fundamental instruments used by the Terrorists and sympathisers, who wage such a deliberate murderous campaign against the Sinhalese, to successfully justify their acts and intentions in the West. In other words attack the means through which the terrorists manage to victimise the Sinhalese while presenting themselves as the victim. These instruments are more destructive and sinister than any military hardware in their possession.

The first of these instruments is clearly the international media who, when it comes to matters concerning Sri Lanka, have been reduced to expressing blatant LTTE propoganda by either distorting or omiting all information. LTTE are the only group of self interested terrorists who are given prominance and frequent air time to exonerate their herrendous crimes. An analogy can be drawn to Martin Bryant featuring on SBS every week explaining why all those innocent people in Port Arthur had to be killed.

The second of these intstruments is western governments. For instsance, the Australian government who insists upon maintaining a neutral position, somehow manages to uphold a law which grants any Sri Lankan Tamil - refugee status, while Sinhalese who represent the part of the community which frequently falls prey to the terrorists are denied that privillege. Australian government also refuses to deal in military hardware with the democratically elected Sri Lankan government. What is more ironic though is that the Australian government warns the cricket team that its safety can not be guarranteed against the acts of the terrorists.

How has all this come about? It is through ferocious lobbying. What the LTTE lobbying has done is fooled most of the people, but most of the people can only be fooled some of the time. The LTTE may have a twenty year head start, but their sinister intentions can be exposed for what they are if the Sinhalese community orchestrate lobbying with even greater tannacity, it is possible because it will be based on the truth.
