The deconstruction prescription to Mr Mahinda Rajapakse by the National Peace Council
The
National Peace Council (NPC) in Sri Lanka financed primarily by Norwegian and
other equally questionable sources, in their latest media release advises the
presidential candidates to draft their manifestos and conduct their campaigns
in a "principled manner". The Foreign funded NGO influence over many
of the traitorous political parties, the leaders and the decision makers marks
a new high point with the NPC patronisingly attempting to guide the
presidential candidates to distance themselves from the nation, the national
will and the national goal of defeating Tamil Tiger Terrorism to usher a
lasting peace in Lanka.
The
National Peace Council speaks of the existing foundations for peace to rebuild
the country, clearly showing that the NPC is unable to grasp the existing
realities in the country. The
armed Tamil Tiger Terrorist group under the cover of a lopsided and illicit
MOU and ceasefire agreement have been able to blatantly violate the stipulated
conditions and kill their political opponents and members of the security
forces at will, abduct children and adults for forced conscription,
intimidate, threaten and extort ordinary people without any penalty, and yet
have organizations such as the NPC pontificate on staying the course.
Not only does the LTTE operate a fascist state in the Vanni region in
the areas illegally controlled by them, but have also spread their tentacles
to government controlled areas even extending to the capital city of Colombo,
where they are able to unleash their pistol gang, suicide bombers and snipers
to target persons from all walks of life including high profile national
leaders of the calibre of the late Honourable Lakshman Kadirgamar.
It is a meaningless ceasefire where one party alone upholds the
agreement whilst the other runs amok committing bloody mayhem in their usual
maniacal fashion.
Does
the NPC still want to pursue the poorly drafted P-TOMS deal wherein the
Administrative authority over donor funds has been shamelessly abandoned by
the Sri Lankan state to a Regional Committee controlled by the non-state,
un-elected armed Tamil Tiger Terrorists, which segment of the deal was in fact
made inoperable by the decision of the Supreme Court?
Furthermore, major donors such as the USA, UK too withdrew funding in
terms of the deal as their laws debarred them from transferring funds to
designated terrorist groups such as the LTTE.
The NPC which has been exposed by the sources of its finances as well as its bias towards the Tamil racist demands and the LTTE, shamelessly prescribe the following as principled guidelines for policy making of the presidential candidates:
a)
The unitary form of the Government to be replaced by Federalism. (Is it
to serve as a stepping-stone to a separate Eelam as envisaged by the ISGA
proposals of the LTTE?)
b)
Negotiated peace and power sharing with the fascist LTTE. (Based on the
LTTE terms?)
c)
Pursue a federal solution to the ethnic conflict even though the LTTE
now denies any commitment to such an undertaking at the Oslo talks. (According to the LTTE's understanding of federalism?)
The
National Peace Council 's attempt is not only mischievous but compels one to
question whether this NGO is guilty of violating the recent UN decision
against supporting those involved in violence and guilty of incitement to
violence.
Now that Mr Mahinda Rajapakse has resolved to come up with a new program for Sri Lanka, if the NPC has a backbone, it should make up its mind to consider the coming presidential election as a referendum for the unitary state, federalism, power sharing, etc., rather than patronizingly dictating terms to undermine the Nation. The NPC's understandable silence regarding LTTE terrorism, human rights violations and attacks on political pluralism reveals its agenda for the Nation.
It
is indeed pathetic to note that some national and international institutions
are taking NGOs such as NPC seriously while they hardly have any relevance to
the social reality of Sri Lanka. Mr
Mahinda Rajapakse and the nationalistic forces should register their
opposition to the NPC at once. The Nation cannot afford undue interference by
foreign funded NGOs such as the NPC with agendas to serve foreign interests
that are partial to the Tamil Tiger Terrorists any longer, especially when it
is facing a crucial election to vote for new Leader of the country.
Yours
truly,
for
