Request
from the World Alliance for Peace in Sri Lanka to the Janatha Vimukthi
Peramuna and Jatika Hela Urumya political parties
Sri
Lanka is passing through one of the darkest periods of her history facing the
intransigent Tamil Tiger Terrorists and the extremely subtle diplomacy of some
of the members of the international community led by Norway. To add insult to
injury many of the Sri Lankan political leaders are ready to forego the
sovereignty and the self-respect of the country for the sake of staying in
power at any cost. Under these circumstances, we request the JVP and the JHU
to forget the differences in your political philosophy and your long-term
objectives and to come together as a joint force. It is time to think about
the critical issues facing the country NOW especially when a golden
opportunity has arisen to elect an Executive President who will undertake to
put the country first.
We
are of the view that your two parties have no problems in arriving at a
negotiated settlement as both parties have clearly stated and exhibited
through your political action that you are determined to defeat terrorism and
uphold the sovereignty of the country.
Both
parties should be honest to the people of Sri Lanka rather than to the
outsiders who are keen to keep them at each other's throats. Both your parties
have an obligation and a duty to stand by the Sri Lankan nation and state in
no uncertain terms that:
1.
Sri Lanka's sovereignty and territorial integrity will be upheld at any
cost
2.
LTTE terrorism will be defeated.
3.
The interfering international community, the foreign funded
organizations and the NGOs will be told to take their hands off Sri Lanka.
4.
Every step will be taken to support and build a National Economy.
5.
Both parties will stand unitedly to plan for the alleviation of poverty
in Sri Lanka.
6.
Both parties will give an undertaking to restore law and order
7.
Corruption and nepotism will be rooted out.
Time
is running out at an unbelievable pace pushing the country to the brink of
disaster. It will be through a joint working program of the JVP and JHU based
on the above seven principles that the nationalist forces will be able to give
the right leadership and confidence to the Sri Lankans who have been betrayed
time and again by treacherous leaders for the last few decades.
We
hope and pray that the JVP and the JHU will move away from their self-built,
secluded corners to build on their strengths and force the main political
parties to realise that the period of muzzling the Nation is over. A new
generation of politicians have arrived. A new political culture is in the
making placing the Nation's interest ahead of party politics, personal gains
and dollar commissions. Sri Lanka will be rid of the “Robber Barons” who
ruled the country at the whim and fancy of their overlords and masters in the
west.
Let Mother Lanka take a fresh breath!
Let
Mother Lanka gain strength to come out of one of the most unfortunate
situations in her history.!
We
appeal to the Patriots in the JVP and JHU (lend your ears to MOTHER LANKA's
piteous wailing and dry her tears- DELETE) to pay heed to the cries of the
suffering masses who have waited long for the dawn of a just and fair society
in Mother Lanka
