Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth
The Hon Tony Blair, the Prime Minister
The Hon Michael Howard, the Leader of the Opposition and People of Great Britain,
You Majesty, Your Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Terrorist attack in
London and crimes against the humanity
We are shocked by the brutal attack carried out by the terrorists in London killing and injuring many civilians who never suspected that they will be used as a target to achieve the objectives of faceless enemies of humanity. These evil forces do not have to bother who should be killed or where their killing machine has to be directed as long as they are successful in mowing down the maximum number of human beings. As many have commented, this is an attack on all who believe in human co-existence and uphold humane methods in resolving socio-economic issues. We extend our deepest condolences to the people in the U.K and salute you in your resolve to stand up to the challenge posed by international terrorism
One of the most
complex issues facing a number of democratic nation states and the world at
large is terrorism and the brutal, senseless methods used in causing maximum
damage, often targeting
ordinary men and women. As discussed at world assemblies and domestically, the
most effective way to challenge the scourge of terrorism is to hold faith in
the accepted democratic way of life and to strengthen the legal and security
measures of each state so that the civil society can confidently get on with
their normal activities. Appeasing
terrorist groups and allowing them their pound of flesh without making them
accountable for their way of thinking and method of operations, will only
encourage all marginal groups with different agendas to strike fear through
terrorism.
Unfortunately, many of the Western countries including the UK, due to liberal traditions or with the false idea of pampering various interest groups have been giving succour to hordes of terrorist groups who commit criminal activities in many countries in the developing world. Terrorist inflicted wounds in the third world countries do not get the extended press coverage, as the value of the human lives in these countries are not reckoned with the same 'currency'. Very often the terrorist leaders are given protection in countries such as the UK, Canada, Norway and many other European states, and without any concern or shame. Some of these developed countries force the democratically elected governments in the developing world to placate, appease and negotiate unconditionally with the terrorist groups, where citizens in their own countries would not tolerate such actions.
As
a case in point, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), the world's most
brutal and best-organized terrorist group’s key spokesperson along with his
wife who trained women terrorist
fighters and the women suicide bombers reside in London.
It is also a well-known fact that Tamil Tiger Terrorists’
Broadcasting Publicity Centre too is London from where they eulogise the
activities of their suicide bombers and other killers. The British diplomats
travel very often to Tamil Tiger Terrorists' controlled areas even when these
killers say that they do not accept the sovereignty of Sri Lanka. The UK along
with countries like Norway, Japan, etc. put continuous pressure on the legally
elected Sri Lankan governments to share resources with the Tamil Tiger
Terrorists, even though the UN Conventions on Terrorism clearly state that
funding of Terrorism is a violation of UN resolutions.
When there is overwhelming evidence to show that democratic leaders, politicians and the institutions of state are constantly being attacked by the armed LTTE, and they challenge the legal protectors of the human rights through their kangaroo courts, forcibly recruit child soldiers and proudly exhibit their suicide bomber squads, the UK and the leaders of the Western democracies have but a Nelsonian eye for a poor developing nations like Sri Lanka battling terrorism for the last 25 years. Their unarmed civilians are slaughtered, political leaders gunned down, city centres bombed and the civilian life disrupted, yet, the UK and the West have no tears to shed, as these lives are discounted and treated as expendable as they are not the 'chosen people'.
If the proper response to international terrorism is to create confidence in the democratic systems and take adequate measures to defeat monstrous armed threats, the time has come for the UK and the Western nations who allow terror groups to freely operate within their jurisdictions thereby harbouring, protecting, and funding such terrorist groups of all colour and shade, to stand firm with the people who are at the receiving end of the brutalities of terror groups.
Today, when we condemn the
terrorists who bombed the ordinary Londoners who were going about their
daily business, who snuffed out the lives of fathers, mothers and children in
London let the British Government and the British people think of
thousands of poor civilians in Sri Lanka who have
been and continued to be killed by the Tamil Tiger Terrorists. Let them
rethink whether it is any longer morally correct or ethical to let the British
land and the resources to be used by the terrorists to kill Sri Lankans and
destroy their country.
We appeal to all
peace loving, democratic people to rally round to defeat the menace of
terrorism. There is no way to negotiate with them as they pursue goal of
destabilization and destruction relying on none other than their bombs, guns
and manic leadership Let us stand together and declare that “terrorism
anywhere is terrorism everywhere”
