Self promoted 'Freedom Fighters' blast innocent civilians in Sri Lanka

The LTTE terrorists of Sri Lanka, also known as the Tamil Tigers, have been blasting away and killing civilians for the past 30 years. More recently they have promoted themselves as 'freedom fighters' to the international community and to the gullible media, but have continued on their spree of targeting, blasting and killing innocent civilians. In the pursuit of a 'liberation' for the Tamil people, the Tamil Tigers have killed more of their own Tamil community than anyone else.

On November 28, the morning after the infamous annual speech to the world by the terrorist supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran, a young LTTE suicide bomber blasted herself and another person to death in Colombo. This occurred in an attempt to assassinate Hon Douglas Devananda, the government social services minister. Devananda himself is a Tamil who has escaped no less than twelve assassination attempts by the LTTE.

On the same evening, Prabhakaran's cohorts blasted a bomb in a crowded supermarket in suburban Colombo killing 18 more innocent civilians and maiming scores more. This was one of many bombs targetting civilians that have exploded in Sri Lanka during 2007 and have taken a large death toll. By these vile terrorist actions, the Interpol listed terrorist Prabhakaran and his followers seek to find the liberation for the Tamils of Sri Lanka. Their list of such cruelties over the past 30 years is indeed very long.

Previously on 27 November, the day of the annual terrorist commemoration, 11 civilians were killed in a roadside bomb explosion in the heart of the LTTE controlled area, close to Kilinochchi. The LTTE has attempted to blame the Sri Lankan forces for carrying out this vicious attack, however V. Ananadasangaree the veteran Tamil political leader and ex MP for Kilinochchi who knows the area well, categorically states that the killings took place in the LTTE heartland impenetrable to the Sri Lankan forces. He lists this act as a further vicious act of the LTTE.

These dastardly terrorist acts are not reported or not given prominence in the leading Australian electronic media - and therefore, provides testimony to the biased reporting in the Australian media. In the Australian context, 32 other countries of the democratic world have proscribed the Tamil Tigers as a terrorist organisation under their national criminal codes, but Australia preferred to drag its heels for the past seven years after making its commitment to the UN Charter on Terrorism in 2000. On the positive side however, although not proscribed under the local Criminal Code Act, three suspected members of the Tamil Tigers are some of the first to be charged on fund raising for terrorism in Australia, under the amended legal provisions.

The alternative to terrorism is democracy and a peace process. The LTTE has been provided the most wonderful opportunity by the international community and the Sri Lanka government to present their claims through a peace process commenced in 2002. However, all that the LTTE has presented is a case for a separate sovereign state based on a manufactured history. Further, the earlier sob stories of discrimination against the Tamil people such as discrimination in employment, university admissions etc now fail to raise its head, and have been well and truly been buried in the face of historical facts. No nation in the world has accepted legitimacy of the claim for an independent Tamil nation in Sri Lanka. Further, the peace process which produced 3830 LTTE ceasefire violations is effectively dead since April 2007. More recently, to drive the final nail to the coffin of the peace process, LTTE have walked off the negotiation table, twice in Geneva and once in Oslo.

The Tamil diaspora also made a pre emptive strike against a possible Australian proscription of the LTTE at the Joint Houses Committee on Intelligence and Security sittings in April 07. The reasons advanced for this process was the lack of community consultation and the non availability of provisions for representation by the affected party. These representations centred clearly on sovereign state building aspirations of the Tamil diaspora. This minority of persons claim to represent the Australian Tamil community in the same tone and manner, as the LTTE in Sri Lanka claims to be the legitimate representatives of all Tamils of Sri Lanka

Aping the use of civilian shields in the battlefront, the LTTE diaspora are hiding behind the general Tamil population of Australia, and claiming that the entire community would suffer 'injustices' in the event the LTTE is proscribed in Australia. However, the proscriptions in 32 other countries of the world have not affected the legitimate agitations, representation and collective democratic actions of the Tamil community in expressing their views. On the other hand, the proscription in US, UK, EU, India and other countries have effectively curbed the criminal element of fund raising, arms procurement, money laundering, credit card fraud, street violence, propaganda, stand over tactics etc of the LTTE overseas.

Proscription of the Tamil Tigers would also effectively curb the massive terrorist propaganda that is carried out in Australia to indoctrinate young minds, and also to infiltrate many national organisations to seek sympathy for the terrorist cause. Public propaganda using community facilities such as school and community halls in Sydney's Ryde Civic Hall and Blacktown's Bowman Hall has seen the veneration of suicide cadres, eulogising of child soldiering, display of terrorist promotional material, display and veneration of portraits of the terrorist leaders listed by the Interpol, brainwashing of young Australians on a manufactured history of the Sri Lanka conflict, the public collection of funds for suspect purposes, spewing communal hatred to a young generation of Australians, recruiting more hands to the terrorist cause, and the hoodwinking of Australian politicians and statesmen to pose before the portrait of the terrorist supremo Prabhakaran to further propaganda.

Whilst wishing a successful term in office to Hon Kevin Rudd and his team, our Society earnestly requests the new Labor Government of Australia take early positive action to proscribe the LTTE Tamil Tigers as a terrorist organisation under the Criminal Code Act of 1995.

Back to Latest News on LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorists

What is really happening in Sri Lanka today is that a ‘blood thirsty racist’ group led by some misled Tamils called LTTE is terrorizing against the Govt of Sri Lanka and its people irrespective of their ethnicity with an intention of carving out a separate state. There is no conflict as such between Sinhalese and Tamil communities in Sri Lanka. In fact, the majority of the Tamil community lives in peace and harmony among the Sinhalese population through out the country apart from the Northern part of Sri Lanka. The entire Sinhalese and the Muslims population who lived in the Northern area for centuries were either killed or chased away completely by the LTTE Tamil Tiger terrorists. At the moment, not a single Sinhalese or Muslim is living in Jaffna, but, many thousands of Tamils are living in Colombo.
