Air Attack in Colombo - Terrorism Most Outrageous

The attack by using a light plane on the Colombo International Airport by the Tamil Tiger terrorists today, brings international terrorism to a new height. It also shows the strengthening of the Tamil Tiger terrorist armoury under the cover of the ceasefire agreement, and now poses a direct seaborne and airborne terrorist threat to the democratic nation Sri Lanka, and to its immediate neighbours India and Maldives.

The Tamil terrorists have on previous occasions shown their international reach by the many acts of terrorism. These include the invasion of the Maldives Republic, the suicide bombing of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in India, the employment of renegade Indonesian Marine General for the procurement of SAM missiles and arms from the US, the recent human smuggling attempt of 83 persons to Australia, attempt to import light aircraft from Australia and the highly organised international maritime ship operations and arms and drug running syndicates. The list is almost endless.

The responsibility and blame for today's attack also lies with elements of the international community who nurtured and nursed the Tamil Tiger terrorists over the past 5 years of the ceasefire agreement. In the name of an elusive peace process, they also arm twisted and persuaded past Presidents of Sri Lanka to commit the treachery of allowing the terrorists to unload shiploads armaments and equipment which was to be used to annihilate the people of Sri Lanka.

Amongst some of the more legitimate shipments coming through the customs, aircraft, helicopter parts and communications equipment for deadly terrorist propaganda had been found. The Tamil terrorists along with their key front, the Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation are currently under international scrutiny for swindling tsunami charity collections for purchase of weapons and armaments and also for using the tsunami tragedy to import light planes and helicopters for terrorist acts. They also built two air strips in the north and photographic evidence shows light planes sitting on the runways. Patriotic media and associations have time and again brought these dangers to the notice of all, many times over.

With such compelling evidence, the second attack on the Colombo Airport in six years, and also during a period of highest alert also raises some embarrassing questions. The radar alerting, air space control, communications systems and ground fire - all failed to work. There is no excuse for such lapses and the consolation was that the terrorists missed the target of MIGs and Kfirs. The worst was the failure to destroy the attacking light plane either with anti aircraft gunfire or by scrambling a jet fighter from a northern airbase. On the other hand, the attack is a huge propaganda boost and thumb nosing that would draw enormous dollars from the international terrorist diaspora for continuing and escalating the conflict in Sri Lanka.

Some international governments still consider these brutal terrorists as freedom or liberation fighters. Sri Lanka is a democratic nation needing no further liberation. There has never been a Tamil homeland nor an ethnically cleansed Tamil nation in Sri Lanka. Further, no amount of alleged human rights violations by the Sri Lanka government will cause the Tamil Tiger terrorists to be painted snow white. They are terrorist criminals who need banning under the Criminal Code of fellow Commonwealth countries such as Australia without further delay. No reason can justify inaction.
