Defeat of Terrorists in Samapura - A first step to Peace and Democracy in Sri Lanka
The sound defeat and the final routing of terrorists holed up in Mavil Oya, Muttur and Samapura in Trincomalee by the valiant defence forces of the democratically elected government of Sri Lanka shows the world that, 'if there is a will, there is a way'. This recent conflict which was escalated by the 'Terrorism of Water' in Mavil Oya a month ago, had been thrust upon Sri Lanka by the Tamil Tiger terrorists in contravention of an existing Ceasefire Agreement.
In contrast to the past, on this particular occasion, the Sri Lanka government had the will to act with courage and prudence on matters of its own sovereignty. In the earlier years, the little will it had, had been wilted by the sugar coated talk of the international community , then backbitten by an elitist local community with a passionate belief in a terrorist manufactured history of Sri Lanka, and finally chopped up by the ever present international Tamil Tiger terrorist canards and propaganda. The little will the country had was finally drowned out in partisan media jargon such as 'ground realities', 'unwinnable war' and 'ethnic conflict', all funded by NGOs and foreign interests.
This week at last, the millions of suffering and brutalised Sri Lankans whether they be Tamils, Muslims or Sinhalese see a glimmer of hope in their own sovereign state and the future of a resolution to the terrorist conflict in Sri Lanka.
In the international front, the front organisations of the Tamil Tiger terrorists have been ably brought to book by the criminal justice system of the United States. SPUR, NSW hails and salutes these actions. It also gave the Sri Lanka the 'will' at last to criminalise these criminals who had been operating freely in Sri Lanka.
SPUR, NSW unreservedly salutes and pays homage to those brave sons and daughters in the defence forces of Sri Lanka who have been in the forefront of this struggle, and have been willing to pay with their dear lives for the well being of others, and for the upholding of the sovereignty of Sri Lanka. We convey our deepest condolences and gratitude to the families and friends of the injured or killed service personnel.
The sound defeat of terrorists in Samapura is a first step to peace and democracy in Sri Lanka, after the many decades of brutalisation of the people of Sri Lanka by the Tamil Tiger terrorists. There are many more steps ahead, and we urge and encourage the Government of Sri Lanka, to uphold the sovereignty of the democratic nation with the same determination.
Our sovereignty is inalienable.
