Media Release : 03 December 2004

Condemn the unparliamentray behavior of TNA members of the Parliament for Lighting of a lamp in the parliamentary premises to“honour” the so called “Martyrs” of the LTTE

It is reported that a group of TNA parliamentarians who are alleged to have been elected to the parliament by the way of massive vote rigging and the intimidation of supporters of anti-LTTE Tamil parties and who are representing the interest of the terrorist LTTE, lit a lamp on the grounds of the parliament at a pre-determined time to “honour” the so called “Martyrs” of the LTTE who are no more than terrorists responsible for murdering thousands of Sri Lankan security forces personnel and civilians from all ethnic groups in a bloody campaign to dismember Sri Lanka. This act is a violation of the oath that these parliamentarians took when they were sworn into the parliament, by which they undertook to uphold the constitution of Sri Lanka and the sanctity of the Parliament. This act is also an insult to the thousands of victims of LTTE terrorism while being an arrogant but childish attempt by these puppets of the LTTE to desecrate the supreme law making institution of Sri Lanka. They have pushed the limits of parliamentary privilege and the limits of tolerance of the non-LTTE supporting citizens of Sri Lanka of all ethnic groups.

It is also reported that Mr. Jeyraj Fernandopulle ,a minister in the present government and police personnel deployed at the parliament have seen this act and have inquired from these parliamentarians what they were attempting to do. The parliamentarians then told them exactly what they were trying to do and subsequently the minister and the police personnel had allowed them to continue with the lighting of the lamp. This is indeed a serious matter as both the minister and the police personnel are both guilty of ignoring a serious misconduct.

While unreservedly condemning this act of promoting and condoning terrorism, we call upon all political parties who oppose the separatist terrorism of the LTTE and the government of Sri Lanka to condemn this callous act and pass a censure motion against the concerned Members of the Parliament. This act must be officially brought to the attention of the Speaker urgently while the Police personnel and the Minister should be dealt with appropriately.
