SPUR
Condemns the European Union’s Duplicity and its Reluctance to Ban the LTTE
The
Society for Peace Unity and Human Rights for Sri Lanka (SPUR) is extremely
disappointed with the statement made by the EU
commissioner for external affairs, Benita Ferrero-Waldner. Instead of banning
the LTTE terrorists in European countries, Waldner has succumbed to Norway’s
treachery, deciding to humour the bloodthirsty tiger by tickling its
underbelly with a feather.
SPUR
condemns EU’s duplicity. Whilst the EU condemned the London bombings
unreservedly and urged Britain to tighten its laws against terrorists, its
continuing to release meaningless statements urging the marauding LTTE to
begin negotiations with the democratically elected Sri Lankan Government. Sri
Lankans are sick of hearing these types of motherhood statements,
patronisingly delivered to appease Sri Lanka’s impatience and rising anger
against LTTE’s terrorism
A
month has now passed since the LTTE’s assassination of Sri Lanka’s Foreign
Minister Hon Lakshman Kadiragamar. Some of these members of the European
Union, including Ms Waldner, would have sat at the same table as our
assassinated leader, and perhaps even had a cup of tea together discussing the
LTTE terrorists and their dastardly conduct. Literally speaking, Ms
Waldner’s statement desecrates Mr Kadiragarmar’s grave and dismisses his
untimely assassination as perhaps ‘unavoidable’. This is unacceptable to
SPUR.
Ms
Waldner’s weak statement reaffirms the EU’s reluctance to ban the LTTE in
European countries. When pressed about the need to ban the LTTE in EU
courtiers all what she could say was “this is a decision for member states
to take. We have to keep all channels open at this crucial time". This is
a gutless statement made by a spokesperson detached from reality.
Whist
Ms Waldner mollycoddles the tiger, the LTTE continues to:
(1)
Murder
and summarily execute innocent Tamil and Sinhala civilians. Mr Sundaralingam
from Kinniya was executed for refusing to heed extorsion demands on 6
September 2005.
(2)
Attack
Sri Lanka military patrols without provocation. There were two STF soldiers
killed and 16 others injured in a grenade attack on Thursday 8 September 2005.
(3)
Abduct
children to be used and abused as child soldiers. One of these children took
refuge with the army on 6 September 2005 in the Batticoloa area.
(4)
Deal
with narcotics as evidenced by a recent customs seizure at the Moombai airport
in India.
(5)
Indulge
in human smuggling evidenced by the exposure of the operations to smuggle
Mexicans into Canada
MS Waldner also said in her statement that the EU wanted the joint tsunami
relief pact signed by the LTTE and the Sri Lankan government implemented at
the earliest.
SPUR would like to remind Ms Waldner that the PTOMS agreement has been
virtually grounded following objections upheld by the Sri Lankan Supreme Court
and that there is universal rejection of the agreement within the Sri Lankan
community and polity; including the governing party. Desperate acts carried
out by a lame duck President should be treated with the contempt it deserves.
We believe Ms Waldner should refrain from meddling in Sri Lanka’s respected
judiciary and extricate her self from the hypnotic trance generated by the
Norwegian’s muddled thinking.
Mr.
J
Cofer Black, US State Department Coordinator for Counter-terrorism, said that
the LTTE has trained other terrorist groups in the world and is in the exalted
company of the Al-Qaeda. "I am disturbed at the LTTE's history as a
terrorist organisation. It has been a purveyor of training, knowledge and
equipment to a spectrum of terrorist groups, and we currently see many of
these groups being mutually supporting," Black told a select media round
table in Colombo last Wednesday. "The LTTE has been a disseminator of
knowledge on how to conduct terrorist organisations, and has equipped other
terrorist groups, which in, and of itself, is sufficient cause for alarm and
concern," he continued.
Given
all this background and LTTE’s recent criminal acts, SPUR condemns the
EU’s inaction. We would like to know, under what conditions would the EU
recommend banning a terrorist organisation like the LTTE?
The
free world and citizens of Sri Lanka who cherish democracy demand an answer
from the EU.
It
is time Ms Waldner to provide some answers to safeguard the EU’s credibility.
Thanking
you
Yours sincerely

D.Jayasuriya

More and more
information about
so-called Facilitators and LTTE Tamil Tiger activities in Norway - It
is possible to trace fundraising and bank accounts to Tamil terrorist
organisations the last 20 years. Bank accounts in Den norske Creditbank,
Bergenbank and Sparebanken Midt-Norge was found before the 1990.
Aftenposten, a major Norwegian newspaper, revealed in an
article in 2001 that Norwegian authorities have been allowing transfer
of funds to the Tamil Tigers, Hamas, ETA and other terrorist organisations.
"Those missing were apparently overlooked on the UN list, and
Norwegian authorities have been reluctant to add them for fear of unfairly
exposing innocent bank customers, and risking damage claims."
According to LTTE they have six offices in Norway. The LTTE is hiding
under more legitimate organisation like the Tamil Rehabilitation
Organization (TRO) and The Tamil Coordinating Committee (TCC). Fifty
persons works in the TCC network in Norway. The LTTE also has a
significant Norwegian support structure for fundraising and propaganda
activities. LTTE fundraising in Norway is estimated that more than 5
million US dollars. The increasing Tamil community (10.000 ++) in Norway
is paying yearly fees to LTTE and LTTE is involved in business activities
in Norway. The LTTE propaganda activities have been successful in Norway.
It is quite obvious the LTTE have been able to sell "their
story" to the Norwegians and received the support of the Norwegian
government and military. With more than 10.000 Tamils in Norway,
LTTE has become a political important partner for Norwegian political
parties. The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also invited the
LTTE to Norwegian military demonstrations. Take
a look at this video
from the Norwegian army of the Tamil Tigers visit. For more

Foreign Minister, Mr. Knut Vollebaek is supposed to come to Sri Lanka on

there will be those who are sympathetic to the LTTE, so in that context,
there are Tamils in Norway who will propagate the cause of Tamil Eelam in

Bring it to a closure - By
K.T.Rajasingham - Enough is enough. Jon Westborg episode has to be brought
to a closure. People in Sri Lanka are not happy with his activities. Many
of them have come forward to say that the Norwegian ambassador is not a
friend of Sri Lanka. Majority of the Sinhalese wanted to see the end of
this episode. They are beginning to speak forcefully about this
issue. It all began to take a clear paradigm shift, when I wrote on
17 November, “Norway
is interfering in the Internal Affairs of Sri Lanka.” Then the
leaders in Sri Lanka began to sit up and take interest in Jon Westborg,
the Ambassador of Norway in Sri Lanka.......... Norway’s
secret agents for peace finding success in Sri Lanka. Asian Tribune
reliably learnt that in each of thesee Vanni visit, Jon Westborg, the
Ambassador was with Erik Solheim. In one of those visits he was told of
Anton Balasingham’s serious illness and of the need for immediate
medication and medical attention (Full
