The war currently being waged by LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorists against the Sri Lankan government is a terrorists issue, but not an ethnic issue. Do you agree with this statement ?

Eric A. B. Fernando A.C.M.A, A.T.F.A., Kandy, Sri-Lanka, 25 August 2003 : In my view conflicts are a common feature in daily life, at a personal or an other level. A representative of Tamils, if he is worthy of being called such, must be a proper delegate constitutionally elected. The first issue is that LTTE is not a party that satisfies this required criteria and can not be regarded as an elected representatives of Tamil people. The Tamils, if they do have a just grievance, are within their legal and moral rights to press for solutions to their grievances through the representatives elected by them. If any party, takes the law in to their hands, as the LTTE has endlessly done, with no consideration to human values and attempts to achieve an objective which is unconstitutional, then, the term “TERRORIST”, is quite appropriate, as pointed out  by the former President, the amiable Mr. D. B. Wijetunga which unfortunately has been treated as a joke by his political dependents. It would be too much to go through the path of destruction of human lives and the irreparable damaged caused to the economy by terrorist action. It is most painful to note that the government has been pushed to a retreat and consequently the LTTE has been provided a period to strengthen themselves. It would not be unreasonably prophetic to say that misery will repeat with compound interest the day the government refuses to give the last inch. A terrorist is one who terrorises and there is enough supportive evidence. Unfortunately, we are yet to see a change of heart on the part of LTTE and the trend must restart sooner or later. There is no alternative for Dracula other than the cup of blood and …………..

Saumi Weerawansa, Los Angeles (5 May 2002) - If LTTE is not a Terrorist organization, then there are no-one you can call 'terrorists' in the whole wide world! Although most of the Western countries have now been shaken from there slumbers after the Sep.11th destruction, and are using the word 'terrorists' as if it's a new word in the English language, Sri Lankan people have tasted first hand for years what the rest of the world is experiencing only now. How babies sleeping on their mats were sword-cut into pieces, how the Sinahalese people in the North and the East were massacred, how a bus-full of innocent Buddhist monks were slaughtered, how thousands of innocent lives were taken in seconds in a number of suicide bomb attacks all over the country.... All these were done by the LTTE, the so-called ethnic fighters for Tamil people. The numbers dead and wounded from their bombs did not exclude Tamils. Also, the LTTE has continuously snatched away Tamil children from their families to fight for them and their belongings to fund them. If they are the so-called fighters for the Tamils, at least they should be fair and care for the people they represent! Just having a question like this to answer is a blood-boiling joke!!!

L.S de Zilwa from Rome (15 Jan 2002) - Any ethnic war or an armed fight has to be among ethnic groups. It has to be a  clear division between two or more ethnic groups. In Sri Lanka the Sinhalese, the Tamils and the Muslims live in common areas while there is war going on some areas waged by a section of Tamils.

War against this Tamil group is conducted by the country's defence services. In the Parliament and in the government there are many Tamil members . Therefore, the war in Sri Lanka is against a terrorist outfit called Tamil Tigers and not between two ethnic groups. In short all Tamils are not Tigers. But unfortunately 99% of the Tigers are Tamils. Tamil Tigers and their fronts in the western countries do everything to call this an ethnic war. Most of the terrorist groups try to cover their true intentions by hiding behind religious or racist causes.

If the war in Sri Lanka is examined impartially it is a clear case of a bunch of terrorists fighting a legally elected government.

World is slowly seeing through the lies concocted by Tamil Tigers and they are being banned in a number of countries. Ethnic cover is slowly getting discarded from the conflict in Sri Lanka. Tigers' cruel war is now exposed.
