President’s humanity and Prabhakaran’s brutality
What the government of Sri Lanka has done is to help a leading terrorist Valayudan Dayanidi, better known as Daya Master, continue with his terrorist crimes. If those who are responsible for the Daya Master episode are not exposed, the government of Sri Lanka should take responsibility for all future crimes committed by the LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorists.
Daya Master should have been arrested and charged with organised crime, terrorism and terrorism conspiracy considering the lives of security personnel and innocents in threatened villages in the North and East.
President’s humanity and Prabhakaran’s brutality - Minutes after President Mahinda Rajapaksa agreed on humanitarian grounds to allow LTTE spokesman Daya to come to Colombo for urgent medical treatment the LTTE killed a soldier, another guardian of the nation. President Rajapaksa, we are sure, made the decision on humanitarian grounds because to him everyone is a Sri Lankan. He even ordered the Forces to escort the LTTE spokesman safely to Colombo and even at this moment LTTE member Daya and his family are in Colombo under heavy protection and in safety. The very soldiers the LTTE kills by laying claymore mines, booby traps, sniper fire and suicide bombers are protecting them today. The President had shown to the world his commitment for peace though some sections tried to portray him as a warmonger during the election campaign. However, the LTTE started killing members of the Security Forces and innocent civilians no sooner Rajapaksa became President. The LTTE did not give him adequate time even to settle down. They showed to the world how brutal and cruel they were. All they wanted was to provoke Rajapaksa and create a bloodbath in the country. The country cannot forget how Prabhakaran sent a pregnant suicide cadre to kill Army Commander Lt. General Sarath Fonseka. General Fonseka is still recovering while many others were killed during the attack inside the Army Headquarters. Then Prabhakaran sent a suicide bomber to kill Lt. General Parami Kulatunge and his security men while he was on his way to work. The attack was planned for nearly seven months. The attack on Pearl Cruise II, which was carrying 700 unarmed members of the Security Forces, is another act of brutality by Prabhakaran though the valiant Security Forces averted it after a fierce sea battle. Then came the LTTE Sea Tiger attack in Kalpitiya and their plans for destruction and the brutal massacre of infants and innocent civilians in Kebithigollewa and their continued attempts to create fear in the minds of people. The country remembers well that this Daya, the LTTE spokesman who is under protection in the safety of the very people they plan to kill in the future denied all of them without any qualms. It is his job to say that they do not kill and we are sure he does not care either. It will also be difficult for the country to forget that the LTTE killed Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar and how this very same Daya, denied that they killed Kadirgamar. Though some reports say that Daya is in Colombo for a heart ailment other reports say he was injured in an explosion. It is no secret that the LTTE plays with fire and with the lives of innocent people. We wouldn’t know if his leader Prabhakaran has got a heart or the LTTE cadres do. If they have hearts they wouldn’t act the way they have acted all these years. To many they are only killing machines. Therefore, it’s time for Vellupillai Prabhakaran and his killer squads to start thinking and to act and tell all peace loving Sri Lankans and the world that they would come for talks to find a peaceful solution and that they would stop killings and they would never instil fear in the minds of innocent children and the people of Sri Lanka and they would not harm innocent Tamils. As for Daya the LTTE spokesman once he returns to his master he must tell him: “Aiya, I have returned having been with people who have got hearts. So, hereafter, I cannot speak with a forked tongue so let us stop killing.”
Appeasing
the Terrorists to the Point of Self Immolation - SPUR,
NSW deplores in no uncertain terms, the act to provide protection and
facilities to key terrorist Daya Master to seek medical treatment in
Government Escorts Terrorists Daya Master to Colombo
Sociey
for Peace, Unity and Human Rights for Sri Lanka (SPUR Inc) strongly
condemns the action taken by the Government to get Daya Master the LTTE
terrorist and the criminal who planned the deaths of thousands of
defense personnel and unarmed innocent civilians, to Colombo for urgent
medical treatment. The fact that Daya Master had to seek medical
treatment in Colombo show that the LTTE terrorists too want to live long
as possible and they do not want to face an untimely death like their
claymore mine and suicide bomb victims. Will he yet realizes the value
of a human life in his death bed? Would the government provide similar
transport facilities to an ordinary Tamil/ Sinhalese or a Muslim
civilian suffering from similar heart condition, currently living in N
& E on humanitarian grounds? Our own service personnel who fight for
the territorial integrity of the country do not get this VIP treatment. Then,
why special treatment for
Daya Master who is a known criminal and a terrorist?
It was few years ago that former President Chandrika acted in the same manner to send Anton Balasingham to Norway for urgent medical treatment when India bluntly refused to accept him for treatment. He now gives orders from UK along with Prabhakaran to massacre innocent civilians in Sri Lanka. Daya Master once recovered will act the same way. SPUR requests the Government who have let down the law abiding citizens of Sri Lanka through this act of folly to keep Daya Master under arrest after the medical treatment and insist the LTTE to release following , if they need Daya Master back; (1) All security personnel including the Police Officer under their illegal custody; (2) All members of PLOTE and EPDP under their illegal custody; and (3) 1,358 innocent Tamil children recruited as child soldiers. If the Government, the Norwegians and the do gooders in the NGO front cannot get the LTTE to realize the value of human lives, the Sri Lankans have only to blame themselves by being suckers to LTTE terrorism over and over. The Government should take the full responsibility of any future killings of innocent civilians in the North and East masterminded by Daya master in the event of his recovery and goes back to Wanni to continue with their killing machine.
Rambukwella escapes - Government spokesman and senior minister Keheliya Rambukwella claimed last night the police had discovered two claymore mines set 100 metres from his residence in Kandy apparently to attack him. Mr. Rambukwella told State TV ITN in its midnight bulletin he was grateful to the police for saving him from the attack. Minister Rambukwella said he was to go to Kandy but had to put it off due to an important engagement in Colombo. However, he said that his security unit which was inspecting the surroundings of his Kandy residence had detected the two claymore mines and called in the bomb disposal squad.
Daya Master at Apollo - LTTE spokesman Valayudan Dayanidi, better known as Daya Master, underwent an angiogram at the Apollo Hospital in Colombo yesterday and his condition is reported to be stable. Daya Master is under treatment for acute coronary syndrome - a heart related ailment. Hospital officials said Daya Master did not undergo any operation yesterday but instead underwent a coronary angiogram. Daya Master’s family is at the hospital amidst tight security. Picture shows Daya Master being wheeled into the hospital.
Daya Master ill: safe passage requested - President gives in to Tiger plea - LTTE on Wednesday appealed to the government for a security escort for their Killinochchi spokesman Daya Master, struck by a severe cardiac arrest, from the Wanni to a Colombo hospital. As the request was being made however, reports indicated that the LTTE was continuing its killing spree in the North and the East gunning down a number of security forces and police personnel. Defence spokesman and Plan Implementation Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said President Mahinda Rajapakse acceded to the request purely on ‘humanitarian grounds’ as Daya Master required immediate surgery. "It is a manifestation of President’s commitment to peace and his genuine desire to resolve the two-decade old conflict." he explained. Daya Master will be accompanied by family members and they had already left Omanthai by road for Colombo, the Minister said. The request was made through the SLMM and the government has made all the security arrangements necessary for his transport to a private hospital in Colombo
Having a heart for the heartless - LTTE spokesman Daya Master was rushed to Colombo on Wednesday, for treatment following a severe cardiac arrest, with the help of the security forces. The government was right in having positively responded to a request from the LTTE to escort him and facilitate his hospitalisation. In a civilised society, the sick must be looked after, irrespective of who or what they are. While seeking the government help to remove its spokesman, the LTTE, true to form, carried on its killing spree. Two policemen were killed in a mine blast in Jaffna. How can the LTTE, which is not at least capable of looking after a senior cadre with a heart condition claim to run a de facto separate state? In a terrain devoid of basic healthcare facilities, what will be the situation of the ordinary civilians if war breaks out? The LTTE is said to be ruthless but we consider it more shameless than anything else. Otherwise, how could it ask for an escort within weeks of the assassination of Lt. Gen. Parami Kulatunga in Colombo and within months of the brutal killing of SSP Charles Wijewardena in Jaffna, let alone other assassinations like that of Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar and the attempt on the Army Commander Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka’s life. What the Sri Lankan governments have been doing is in stark contrast to the way the so-called five star democracies are dealing with their terrorists. When the US invaded Iraq, it unleashed hell on that country; even the chemicals used for water purification were banned and as a result thousands of children have died of dysentery and allied infections. Would Washington have ever allowed an Al Queada leader to be escorted by the US troops for treatment in Iraq or Afghanistan? Would Britain have escorted a terrorist involved in 7/7 attacks to a London hospital for treatment? We pose these questions to those who pontificate to this country on human rights. India, too, expresses humanitarian concerns whenever clashes erupt here. But how did it treat its terrorist, Veerappan, who was partially blind and seriously ill at the time he was finally trapped? He was done to a cruel death. Given his condition, any decent person would have expected India to rush him to hospital. India, it should be recalled, refused Anton Balasingham passage in 2002, despite his plea that he was seriously ill, as the LTTE had killed former Indian Premier Rajiv Gandhi. Here, the LTTE has killed an incumbent President (Ranasinghe Premadasa) and almost succeeded in assassinating another President (Chandrika Kumaratunga). But, Sri Lanka helps the LTTE leaders receive treatment in Colombo, which they have bombed many times. Apart from escorts, we have had a Defence Secretary—Austin Fernando is his name—visiting a senior LTTE combatant in a Colombo hospital with a basket of apples! The survival of the LTTE has been possible due to the humaneness of the much maligned state. It is dependent on the very state it is hell bent on destroying. While living off the food and medical supplies the state sends to the areas under its control, the LTTE has to concentrate only on procuring arms, abducting children, extorting money from the war affected, manufacturing bombs and assassinations. The outfit won’t have a cat in hell’s chance without supplies from the state. Terrorism thrives, as we have pointed out in these columns, in a democracy. It fizzles out when it meets its match in an equally ruthless political regime. The well established Italian Mafia ceased to exist under Mussolini’s fascist dictatorship. That’s why sympathizers of terror groups become ardent champions of democracy to prevent states from resorting to ruthless counter terror. Let it be immediately added that we don’t advocate either sanctions or counter terror, lest our comments should be misconstrued. James P. Grant, the visionary Executive Director of UNICEF, who declared war on ‘global silent emergency’ (read deaths of millions of children from preventable diseases) considered Sri Lanka’s conflict a ‘civilised one’ in that the state feeds the LTTE and wounded LTTE cadres receive treatment in state-run hospitals. The Tigers have been biting the hand that feeds them. Being humane and democratic is not without problems. But a civilised society has no alternative. The government has come under heavy fire from some quarters for its magnanimous gesture. While the consternation of anti terror activists could be understood, it should be realised that a democratically elected government of a legitimate state cannot act like a terrorist outfit and deny medical or surgical care to the sick. Even if Prabhakaran were to ask for medical assistance, we believe, he should be brought for treatment. Perhaps, Angoda or Mulleriyawa will be the best place for him .
LTTE killer squad is on the look out for members of other Tamil groups - Tigers continue with their rampage of killing members and supporters of the rival Tamil groups. Almost daily the separatists’ rebel outfit sends out their killer squad to look out for the other Tamil groups’ members to shoot and kill them. This sickening event of killing without remorse and impunity continue unabatedly. On Tuesday and Wednesday, unidentified Tiger killers killed two leading members of People Liberation Organization (PLOTE) in Jaffna as well as in Vavuniya. The LTTE has so far killed over 200 leading members of PLOTE since 1987. On Tuesday, Tiger guerrillas abducted and killed a leading anti-Tiger activist and a PLOTE Leader in the town of Vavuniya, thus stepping up a killing spree against alternative Tamil voices. Vavuniya leader of PLOTE, Ratnam Sriskandarajah better known as ‘Bavan’ was found dead in Chettikulam, 15 Km from Vavuniya. He was abducted on Tuesday night by the LTTE operatives, according to Vavuniya Police. His lifeless body riddled with bullet wounds was found on 13th morning. Bavan’s death came hours after LTTE pistol men shot dead Jaffna PLOTE leader Sebastian Iruthayarajan on Tuesday evening. Head of Jaffna district PLOTE group, Sebastian Iruthayarajan (alias Bolder Rajan), 43, was shot dead along Martin Street, Jaffna by unknown LTTE gunmen on Wednesday afternoon. Iruthayarajan was shot and killed while he was riding a bicycle towards the Girls' Convent located in Martin Street to pickup his children. Iruthayarajan is a father of nine children. He was a senior member of PLOTE for several years. Iruthayarajan was also an elected member of the last Jaffna Municipal Council.
Government wrong in helping terrorists: JHU * Condemns granting of medical facilities to Daya Master - The Jathika Hela Urumaya in a press statement yesterday condemned the granting of facilities to Daya Master of the LTTE to obtain medical attention in Colombo. The statement says that it is a fact that Sinhala Buddhists are well known for showing ‘Maitriya’ to even their enemies, but some government media spokesmen are trying to portray this act also as a noble act. It is a fact that leaders of Sri Lanka as well as foreign heads in order to win the Tigers do humanitarian acts of this nature at any cost, the statement said. It further said, “What the government has done is to help terrorist Daya Master continue with his terrorist crimes. If those who are responsible for the Daya Master episode are not exposed the government should take responsibility for all future crimes committed by the Tigers. “Further more the LTTE has made clear their solution to the problem. The new theoretician V. Rudrakumaran has said that they will not accept anything less than a six-year interim administration and a referendum to separate at the end of the period. “We like to remind all those who charged the JHU of war mongering while speaking about a unitary state, that the Tigers have rejected the Oslo agreement and thereby on their own argument become terrorists. Terrorism cannot be tamed as shown in the recent Indian bomb blasts. Hence India and Sri Lanka should pay attention on defeating terrorism. The nature of the state structure of Sri Lanka should be determined by democratic leaders and people and not by terrorists” the statement said.
