LTTE Tamil Tiger Terrorists attack on troops and civilians continue as usual
The continuous orgy of cowardly Tamil Tiger (LTTE) violence against members of the Security Forces, civilians and the Police struck between late night on Friday (23) and during Saturday (24) and Sunday (25) morning in the general areas of north & east. In the latest attack against the troops one soldier received serious injuries in the general area of VELVATITHURAI, JAFFNA this morning (25) at about 8.30 a.m. when suspected Tamil Tigers threw a hand grenade at a sentry point. Injured soldier was admitted to PALALY Military hospital.
In another similar attack, three more soldiers on routine duties in the same area had to seek admission to the PALALY Military hospital after Tamil Tigers around 10.30 a.m. on Sunday (25) threw a hand grenade and caused injuries to the troops.
At PASAYUR, JAFFNA, a group of Tamil Tigers fired a few rounds of small arms fire towards a sentry point at the Security Forces Forward Defence Line on Saturday (24) at about 5.20 a.m.. However troops did not receive injuries. In this instance, troops retaliated Tamil Tiger fire.
In another incident, LTTE men on Saturday (24) around 12.25 p.m. opened fire towards the troops on piquet duties near JAFFNA Hindu college
Again on Saturday (24) around 8.00 p.m. one soldier received injuries when Tamil Tigers directed fire toward a foot patrol in the general area of
THALAYAI, JAFFNA. Injured soldier was admitted to the PALALY Army hospital.
Meanwhile, Tamil Tigers directed fire towards troops after lobbing a hand grenade at a sentry point in POINT-PEDRO, JAFFNA, the same day around 0.30 a.m. However, no casualties were reported in that attack.
A civilian named WEERAKKODY ALBERT HENRY (64) of TRINCOMALEE was shot dead by suspected Tamil Tigers pistol group while victim was driving his lorry with his own son their way home in the general area of ORR’S Hill, TRINCOMALEE, Friday (24) around 9.15 p.m..
In the meantime three civilians of PATTIYAKULAM, TRINCOMALEE who went to collect firewood, have been abducted by unidentified men suspected to be from LTTE from the general un-cleared areas of PATTIYANOOR, TRINCOMALEE on Saturday (24) 8.00 a.m., stated complaints made to the Police by their next of kin.
In another incident about eleven (11) Air Force personnel proceeding to VEPPANKULAM from PANMEDAWACHCHIYA, TRINCOMALEE on a truck on Saturday (24) around 5.45 p.m. came under Tamil Tiger 40 mm grenade launcher attack. However Tamil Tigers failed to receive desired results since the grenade missed the target and fell behind the truck before it exploded.
Troops on duty at KYLASAPILLAI in JAFFNA came under grenade attack on Friday (23) night at 8.15 p.m. but the explosion of the grenade did not cause any damage or injuries. Troops at sentry point retaliated the fire but did not cause any damages. All those incidents were to be intimated to the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission
(SLMM). Respective Police stations are conducting investigations.
