LTTE terrorists greet the end of Sri Lanka CFA by slaughtering civilians

The LTTE terrorists have once again spoken out loud and clear to the entire world with their trademark display of slaughtering innocent civilians. 27 persons, mostly women and children, were killed and 60 more were seriously wounded when LTTE terrorists targetted and exploded a crowded bus in Weliara near Okkampitiya in south eastern Sri Lanka on Wednesday 16 January. It was the very day on which the Sri Lankan government effectively withdrew from the ceasefire agreement (CFA).

Since early January, when the Sri Lanka government gave 14 days notice of the termination of the CFA, it had only received blame and castigation for taking this unpleasant step. The ceasefire agreement had been a dead letter in every sense for the past 5 years and going no-where, excepting the fattening of the LTTE terrorists. It was kept alive by the mouth to mouth resuscitation given by the international community.

With this incident, further blame will be hoisted upon Sri Lanka by the for its failure to protect its own people and the consequent failure to safeguard human rights of the people allowing free and safe movement, and ability to get about their daily life chores. A chorus of international and local pundits will sing ‘didn’t we tell you so’ in the next few days. They have scant regard, or the time to empathise with the innocents of Sri Lanka who are being mauled by the LTTE and also do not have the courage to acknowledge the reality of terrorism.

What the commentators fail to acknowledge is the fact, that the LTTE in desperation always targeted civilians. On this occasion the LTTE has symbolically celebrated the end of the CFA, with a mass killing of innocent civilians causing blatant human carnage and human rights abuse.

The CFA has been a goose that laid the golden egg for the LTTE. It expanded its operations, brought on a ‘Mr Clean’ image and spread its propaganda and fund raising tentacles far and wide around the globe. The LTTE will cry out loud and hoarse to the world to hang on to the CFA. For the LTTE to flourish, a CFA that provides protection and cover needs to exist irrespective of whether any peace negotiations take place or not. 

On one hand, the LTTE keeps imploring, moaning and groaning to the international community of the LTTE’s total dedication to the non existent CFA. It also shows deep interest to continue with the figment of a ceasefire agreement (CFA), where they committed over 7000 violations to the end of December 07. The reasons for this particular strategy, is too transparent. 

It is time that the true picture of the LTTE terrorism is acknowledged and acted upon by those countries that still feel that they could deal and negotiate with the terrorism of the LTTE.  SPUR, NSW calls upon the new Australian Government to proscribe the LTTE as a terrorist organisation under the Criminal Code Act without further hesitation.
